Everyone that uses or owns a computer needs anti-virus software but it can be a little intimidating knowing which program to choose that is best for you. There are a few ways to ensure that you choose the best software for your needs.
Know what your computer system requires. Different operating systems and Windows programs can require a variety of anti-virus programs. For instance, not every program that works on XP will now work on Vista or Windows 7. It is a good idea to choose one that is fairly new and may work on a program that you upgrade to. Many will work on newer programs so if you have XP and choose anti-virus software, you’ll want to be sure it’ll work on an upgraded Windows program so that when and if you upgrade you won’t have to purchase more software.
Check out reviews and thoughts from others that have used the software. Nothing is more frustrating than buying something and finding out that you don’t like it or it has issues. By looking at reviews from people that have used the product you can see what issues they had and how the product works and runs. The best reviews to use are ones you find by a search engine search using the name of the product and the word reviews. For example, “XXX customer reviews.” This will give you organic results meaning no one was compensated for their review and that they are people just like you, wanting to share their thoughts.
If you can, choose an anti-virus program with a trial period so you can see if you like it before you buy it. That way you can choose another program if you don’t like this one and you won’t be out any money just to see if it’s the program for you. Many anti-virus programs will offer trial periods so you shouldn’t have to worry about finding one to test.
