Everybody has had to deal with customer service at one point in their lives, this is simply the nature of the world. Whether you are dealing with customer service or tech support over the phone, online or in person, you must keep in mind that these people are there to help you out. No matter what you end up doing, the sole job of tech support is to ensure that you end up happy at least on some level. This is not going to automatically mean that you will get everything that you want, but if you work with tech support, tech support will work with you.
The first thing that you are going to want to do when you are approaching a tech support representative is simply remain calm. Nothing is going to harm your chance of actually receiving help more than appearing disgruntled or angry. Things do happen in life, and sometimes you are going to run into issues no matter what you do. This is not tech support’s fault, so try not to take anything out on them.
Remaining calm is going to make it easier for you to relate the problem to the tech support representative. You must be able to let them know what kind of response you need or want in order to resolve the situation. When they know what you want to have happen, then they can determine the best course of action for helping you solve your problem. At this point the tech support representative will be able to tell you what he or she can reasonably do for you based on the scope of the issue. Keep in mind that they are following company policy, and do not blame them if they cannot help you in the best possible way. Tech support representatives are there to help you, it is their job, so cut them some slack and you will have a smoother experience.
