When you have a computer problem, you eventually end up calling your son or a technology-minded friend to come to your house and try to fix things for you. Well, if this has happened to you, you’ve probably been embarrassed a time or two because the problem with your computer was something as simple as not turning on the monitor or having it accidentally unplugged.

Here is a checklist of things you should do before you call someone in to help you with your computer problem.

  • Check to make sure everything is plugged in – It is easy for cords to come loose, especially the computer mouse, so check that everything is connected. This may be the number one problem that goes wrong with computers.
  • Restart your computer – Sometimes a problem can be solved if you restart your computer. What this does is close all of your programs and put everything back in its original state. Many software programs require you to restart your computer before they can be used, so keep an eye out for this.
  • Adjust the computer properties – Lots of people report there being a problem with the screen resolution or the cursor. These are things that are sometimes changed when you enter a program. Luckily, theses computer properties are easy to change with a few clicks when you go to the properties tab.
